rereading aldo rossi and the analogical city, some close-drawings

this suite of drawings reread aldo rossi’s idea of the analogical city. i call them close-drawings, after the practice of close-reading in philosophy and critical theory, but transposed to the spatial, material, and representational practices of architecture. the close-drawings combine analytical and generative thought, redrawing a selection of rossi’s drawings. every close-reading is always simultaneously a rereading and therefore a new project. likewise in architecture, every close-drawing invents a new project. the drawings are part of a larger body of work that reflects on architecture’s status as a critical project, and which will be published as a book entitled, analogical city, published open access by punctum @punctum_books
